I believe your right! Brit in Paris was right. I hadnt mentioned it.
Looks like ive made progress on the ground here. Ive been on the phone all day. National Archives, Immi , Tax department, unemployment office ,border security etc. They are conceding that my case is difficult and may prioritize . If I can keep them talking maybe they will roll over and tick the box.
Again I thank everyone for their input. Truly wonderful.
Cheers Stuart

Stuart, would I be correct in saying you don't have a copy of your birth certificate or a valid British passport at the moment?

Okay, so there's a few steps you will need to take. First of all I would order copies of your birth certificates as well as your parents' and your parents' marriage certificate from the General Register Office in the UK. The fee is £9.25 for each certificate so it's relatively inexpensive to order all four. Once you have these documents you'll be able to more easily find a record of your Australian immigration status and apply for your British passport. You'll need to provide DIBP with your passport details so they can attach your immigration status to your passport number. You'll then be able to start the process of applying for Australian citizenship.
For this you'll need the relevant index reference numbers. Your birth certificate's index reference number is here. It appears your birth was re-registered as a result of your parents not being married at the time of your birth and wanting to register you again once you were legitimised so that your father could appear on your birth certificate. This would have been shortly before you left for Australia. Your parents' marriage certificate index reference number is here.
From your parents' marriage record we can deduce that your father was Anthony G Atkinson. There are quite a few options so without a place of birth it will be tricky to choose the right one. Your birth certificate should list your parents' places of birth however so that we can find the right one.
What's your mother's date of birth? Does she have any middle names? I think I've found her but that extra information would help confirm it.
