Default failed before we even got to the starting line.

Just had our first consultation with a consultant at the visa bureau and he ran through some questions and said we need 120 point for a 175 visa, we scored 100 and killed our dreams.

But I just wanted to see he was right or whether we should try another agent or give up the idea altogether:
I am 29,
IT professional (Desktop/network support, administrator) (he said profession not on the list)
GNVQ – Merit (academic qualification - college)
IT qualification – MCSE 2000 &2003, MCSA plus more (he said not relevant as profession not on the list)

Wife:
Age 27
Recruitment consultant (he said profession not really on the list)
2:1 degree

He suggested the wife would be the better applicant but scored 100 points.

I would definitely suggest another agent. Have you tried GoMatilda? Good luck.

Would you not qualify with an RPL and Computing Professional (nec)? That is on the list.

Your profession is most definitely on the list and worth atleast 60 points. I know as I am in the same occupation. Its either Computer Professional (NEC) or systems manager (depending on how good your RPL looks). If you have the experience, then look into rplhelp.co.uk for good ideas in how to complete the RPL form.

Recruitment consultants are not on the list dude but if your wifes got experience then just get in touch with some agents out there hey presto you'll get sponsored no problem. I have no experience in RC but have been told by an RC company in Oz that if I get some experience then that will be acceptable. Honest my friend thats your way in.

Have a look on here http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf its a list of all occupations in demand and how many points you get for each profession. If you qualify for a 60 point job, that with your age and experience, you should get enough points.

If you dont reach 120 for a 175 visa you can apply for a 176 if you only get 100.

A 176 visa is where you are sponsored by a certain state and you have to live in that State for 2 years.

Forgot to say if this agent said you scored 100 points he really should've recommended the 176 visa! Give Go Matilda a ring, we're using them and they've been really good. They will give you a free 15 minute consultation and they've got an office in Southampton so helps having someone in UK to get hold of!

I think some agents specialise in particular trades but know naff all about others. It annoys me when they give out incorrect advice. I think this is an early warning sign to not use this particular agent even if you do show them to be wrong.

Did the agent not even advise you on other options available such as a student visa or WHV?

Some agents don't really care. There's people on here that know more than some agents so this is a great place for info. You'll be fine with Go Matilda.

there is no way the agent is correct... I work in IT, doing similar role to you and I qualify for more than 100 points and I'm 43.

If you check online some agents have an online points test, which should give you a good idea of what points you are entitled too.

Never heard such rubbish!!! They NEED people like you dude!! There's deffo LIGHT!!
We thought exactly the same in the beginning...now we're just waiting for a case officer! Give Go Matilda a call.....DON'T just go for cheapest agent, as some of us have found, it's NOT always cost effective!!
Good luck and let us know how you get on!!

try another agent and if you still dont have enough points (which I doubt) for the 175 you could always try the sponsored route (457 or similar).

There's loads of ways to get to Aus- if you look hard enough and dont give up.

ASA have been fantastic with us so far.

Darwin is certainly an undesirable place. However if you love 30-35c everyday of the year and a really hot wet season with cyclones and a hot dryer season then its certainly your place!

But if he's offered it to you, think about it. Its a scorcher(temp wise) of a city with not much out of it, but at least its Australia, and thats your dream right? Its livable put it that way.

I have used the Visa bureau and are great with me based in London and alway there to answer your calls, you have one person deal with you all thru the process. We are applying under a Joiner for my husband, we also know another 2 people who are out in Oz already who recommended this agent to us.

All i can suggest is like the others, keep trying other people you never know !!
