Anybody able to help with the question of experience with regards to the visa application?
Specifically: the better half is returning to work (of sort) after the second (and final) child.
She is a teacher but since last Nov has been employed as a teaching assistant (an aide for a better word) working two full days and three half days per week.
A week before Easter she goes back to Uni for a return to teaching and will thus end the employment at that time.
The plan is for her to go back to work in Sept. (if she gets a job) ideally on a part time basis - but permanent.
The best scenario would be that by a year Sept she will have been employed for in excess of 18 months in the past 24.
It makes a difference for us between a skilled independent and an SIR/STNI visa application.
All responses much appreciated.

The first question for you would be whether there's any hope for a RRV, but I guess you've explored that.
With respect to the work experience requirements, they're quite clear. Only work in a SOL occupation is counted, and the occupation "teachers aide" isn't on the SOL afaik. You might be better off exploring how much maternity leave could be treated as employment. Not sure if she was working until last November, in which case May may be your deadline.

Be very careful. If you get this wrong you will find out at the last step when DIMA assess the work experience claims and refuse the visa.

The PR expiered having been validated only so no real hope there.
So start again the question is which route:
We currently have 110 pts thus SIR or STNI appear the way forward. I know the davantages of STNI over SIR but had heard that many were being declined STNI nomination - current professon is teaching as defined on the VIC list.
What's the take on the SIR/PR conversion? Is anybody at that stage yet?
Am I wrong in thinking that the wife's recent non-employment (3 yrs+) means there are skilled indepnedet points we are missing out on? Should I re read all those advice notes once again?

We most certainly do not want to get this wrong hence the Q.
At present it would appear thet we are able to go down eiteh the STNI/SIR route - any advice bar the obvious advantage of STNI re PR if residing in the specified location for 2yrs.
Just investigatiing if we could manufacture extra pts for skilled ind.
Is the timeframe similar for each type of application?

Hi Bezza,
There's an additional requirement, not mentioned in the points test, but included in the "basic requirements" at the beginning of Booklet 6, that the points giving applicant must have worked for a certain period at the time of application - "Recent Work Experience". In the case of a teacher or any other 60 point occupation where there's no sponsorship, it's 12 months in the previous 18 months. With an STNI nomination you can apply for a Skill Matching visa and cut this down to six months in the previous 12 months.
So IMHO your wife will need to be teaching again (or working in another SOL occupation) for six months before she can qualify.

I do have a skill in demnad in Vic and have 17 yrs expereince myself - I am aware of VIT registration for teachers etc.
Further potentially obvious question - if we get in through STNI for myself woudl my wife be able to teach assuming she has VIT registration?
