my children and i are going out on a 457. my OH's visa is going to be delayed. can he come out with us on a tourist visa and have his visa granted when we are there. should i book him a return flight even though it will be sorted within the next 2 months. we are going in a week.

Don't know for sure but according to this thread http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444724 you may be better off buying a return ticket (which doesn't cost much more anyway). We looked into it at one point also and the general consensus was that it would be the airlines that would be reluctant to let us board.

If OH has been included in the application then there shouldn't be a problem, you just need to get the case officer to grant his visa later. One way ticket should be ok but of course there might be the practical issues as Weasy says. Depends on what your travel agent can achieve I guess. The ETA is always an option if the 457 is likely to be delayed unduly - is it a medical issue?
