Employer Sponsor - do you still need skills assessed?
we need to wait another year before hubby has enough experience for tra (needs 7 years for electrician as he doesn't have formal apprenticeship).
We've been invited to the expo in london and wondered if its worth us going? If there is a possibility of someone sponsoring us, will the skills assessment be an issue?
would appreciate any opinions/experiences of this,
We've never looked at employer sponsor before, but I've trawled the website and it isn't clear,
Many thanks
KAREN

In fact your husband might be able to work in Australia on a 457 (temporary business sponsored visa) - I say might - but I can't see how you'd get a sponsored permanent visa just yet until he's either got seven years or has been through a trade assessment procedure, and even then he might need further work experience after such an assessment.
Have you looked at the TRA UAC? See http://www.workplace.gov.au/NR/rdonl...00527_6_05.pdf and para 10.6 in particular. If you're able to come to Australia your husband would be able to do such a test here and then TRA would accept him almost automatically. Some agencies also offer this kind of assessment overseas. However I think that in a licensed trade it might be difficult to go straight to PR without some post-licensing work experience, so that may be a further complication.
Cheers,

George
Thanks for your info, very interesting as we're actually going over to Adelaide in 4 weeks on a reccie/holiday.
If there is anything we can do whilst over there, could you please let me know how/who to contact? Anything we can do to improve our chances would be fantastic. We'd resigned ourselves to wait until next year (for the 7 years exp) but you never know things may change then so we want to increase our chances if at all possible.
Appreciate your help (in fact grateful for it !)
Regards
KAREN
