Default Emloyer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 121/856)

Hello and good evening, well good evening if you're in the Uk, good morning if you're in Oz.

I'm new on here so please forgive me if I'm going over trodden ground!

I have been thinking of applying to migrate to Oz over the past few years and now the time is right I was hoping to apply for a GSM visa as many others, but have missed out with both my wife's and my jobs been taken off the SOL.

One good thing is that they are both on the ENSOL but here's the big question, what's the best way to find an employer who's willing to sponsor either one of us.

We were thinking of sending our CV's direct to companies in Oz, is this worth doing? Also, are there any Australian Government lists or any other lists of employers who are wanting to sponsor people?

Many thanks in advance.

Wayne.

Look hard?, eg http://www.seek.com.au

You have to be resourceful and start thinking about things from the employer's point of view. Most of the time they can just hire an Australian with no sponsorship hassle, so what skills and attributes do you bring that they can't find locally? Would you be willing to live somewhere remote, for example?

There are a few occupations in real demand in Australia. If you're in one of these, it may be a little easier.

Thanks for that Jaj.

I agree with all you've said, I was thinking like this anyway. Just wanted to know if there were any other resources out there that I hadn't discovered yet.

Its not a question of being " rare" , if your role is on the relevant skills list, and an employer is willing to sponsor you, then you may be eligible for a visa.

No you are not going to find something like this. I can only begin to imagine the outcry if the Australian government produced lists or employers advertised looking for immigrants to sponsor! I am sure you can imagine how this would go down in the UK and it would be much the same here.

The only way is the hard way of trawling through the job sites, it will probably be a difficult process and no guarantee of success but occasionally somebody will manage it.

By the way you say you are not on the SOL. The sol is divided into schedules now so are your occupations off both Sch 3 and Sch 4?

That is all you can do, use the job sites like www.seek.com.au. You are not getting answers because very few companies are interested in sponsoring overseas applicants.

I asked a serious question and now this thread seems to have been hijacked. Could the mods please delete the posts that don't relate to my question

Well another thing you can do then is watch out for the SMP which will hopefully be coming out in the next few months. If either occupation is on one of these then you could apply for state sponsorship and apply for a 176 if successful.

Until then, there is nothing for it but to trawl the jobsites.

Wayne to answer your original question, I would be phoning companies directly and asking to speak to a departmental manager rather than HR. Applying for jobs on seek may be a bit fruitless some companies use automatic email filters and IP filters to weed out applications from overseas and others use recruitment agencies who are not interested in people without a visa.

@rafique you stated that Network Security Specialists are rare in Australia, really this is your opinion based on probably nothing. On the other hand there are many many IT people driving Taxis in Sydney... I could not say how many are Network Security but I imagine no less than other branches of the IT sector.

I was going to suggest trying recruitment agencies. someone has mentioned they might not be interested in someone without a visa but i'd like to think if you register with as many as you can, you're sure to find someone interested. Also be patient and keep applying surely, there must be lots of employers looking or else why would your proffession be on the skills shortage list?
