Early Residency Visa Enquiry
Hello one and all. Just discovered this board and it looks like the holy grail of information! Great to be here.
My situation is in the really early stages, but having spent some time in Australia (a couple of holidays and living there as a student for a year), I've decided now I'd like to make it my home. I'm pretty familiar with their immigration 'points' system and since I'm only graduating from my degree next year, I'm aware that I'll need a bit of experience before I'll make the grade. I'll be a qualified teacher, and 29 years old.
My question is: am I in any way able to secure the work experience I need in Australia? Perhaps go over on a different kind of work visa then pop back to the UK and apply for residency?

Maybe consider the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)?
RSMS gives permanent residence from the start (although you do need to work for your employer for 2 years), there's no points test, and no work experience requirement.
All you need to do (as a qualified teacher) is find a school in Australia to sponsor you, away from the four major cities.
Download and read booklet 5 from the DIMA website to find out more about RSMS.
You should make sure your teaching qualifications are recognised in Australia - some UK qualifications are accepted, such as PGCE, others such as the Graduate Teacher Scheme (GTS) are not.
