Default Documents Stolen

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone out there can offer some help. Our visa application is still being processed as my son had to have extra medicals (Psychologists report for Asperger's). But last night whilst I was in work, we have been burgled, and the folder with all documents was amongst the things taken - passports, birth certs, quals, police checks - everything.

Question is - I now have to report the passport stolen and apply for a new one so what happens to the visa? I am using an agent but it's Sunday here and I'm on second night shift with far too much time to worry about everything - not what is needed right now.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks
Wendy

Let your CO know whats happened; you will all need to get new passports and when you get them you forward the details, new copies etc to DIAC.
Aus is anal about ID so eventually you will need new birth certs etc etc but those can wait for now.

You have my sympathy, its not a nice experience is it

I'm no specialist, but I'd assume the scanned copies won't help you much. The scanned copies of the documents that were stolen won't match the new issued original documents. Couldn't this lead to all kinds of difficulties? I'd ring the High Commission, or drop them a line to enquire about that. Or as Pollyana pointed out, write to your case worker.

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Got a new laptop today after the burglary so back online at home now.

My agent has informed the case officer and we've applied for new passports today.

What other documents will I need to replace - I'm guessing birth certificates but what about skills assessment / qualifications when job hunting - will i need to produce originals?

thanks

How awful!

I've not needed my skills assessment since arriving but I have needed my ID, Qualifications and UK police check for both work and my rental, anyway if I was you I would get ALL the replacements while in the UK because if you ever 'do' need them at some point if will be more hassle (and no doubt more expensive) trying to sort it out from Australia. I've had to get the ones for work certified by a JP so yes the originals were needed.

For the police checks I would give them a ring and explain because you've paid to have them processed already so they may let you order and buy the additional copy which if my memory serves me right was about £5. You could try the same for the Skills assessment too and anything else you've had processed. Birth certificates can be ordered and paid for online BUT make sure you get the FULL versions

Your College/University documents can be ordered from them directly, I needed one of my transcripts so I phoned up and they sent me an order form... It took a while to receive it after ordering

Hope that helps

Thanks - it does help. I had forgot about trying to rent and what I would need.

I guess I'll start working my way through the list.

thanks
