Hi Hanu,

the IT Job Market is not too bad in Germany in spite of the very small
economic growth (+0.25%-0.5%) over the last 3 years. But it still not
to be compared with the IT market in Australia (At least when I
consider the offers in
the Sydney news papers and compare them with those in the german news
papers). But you have to be very good skilled. Most areas needed are
ERP, Data warehouse, IT infrastructure management. Security is still
not in
demand (I cannot understand it but it is really true. Few IT people
know what CISSP is). There is no centres to train for CISSP in the
whole Germany (believe it or not).
Since i am loosing my job any way (If I don't like to move to cologne)
I sent some CVs to different companies. I had 4 interviews and 2 jobs
(which I rejected, since I would loose my redundancy pay, if I leave
the company
before end of September). So I think that you could find a job here,
if you fulfil the requirement written above.
Additionally, you do not have to speak german like a german (this is
impossible anyway :-)). German, like to speak english, they even don't
give you a chance to learn german :-). I know some people from India
working for
Lufthansa here at the airport in Frankfurt. I met them some times in
the canteen. They really cannot speak a single word in german (except
international words bad and goods like Ich liebe Dich = I love you and
Scheiße = Shi..!!
An other issue: German companies love certificates, diplomas etc. The
more you have, the better.

..and as an Aussie working in Germany, I can confirm Sadeq's analysis.
There are IT jobs to be found in the areas he mentions, even for those
with very poor German language skills (like me!).

Anyway, I'm returning to Oz as I've been away too long!

Carlos.

PS: The name Max Mueller may not ring a bell except for those from
south asia, where the local Goethe Institutes are known as Max Mueller
Institutes - after the 19th century German "Indologist", Max Mueller.

If I'd ever heard of them I had sure forgotten. Shows how long I've been
away...

Sadeq,

Interesting comment. It reminds me of the discussion I had with some IT
security people just yesterday.

My flight instructor some years ago made a comment that may apply here:
aviation regulation is written in the blood of the victims of the accidents
that happened through the inaction of the legislature.

Meaning, organizations like the FAA or the NTSB only move to make safety
issues mandatory once people die of them. Until then the industry fights
them tooth, nail and lawyers.

My take is that it will take something similar in IT security - a huge
corporate collapse that can't be covered up (unlike the billions banks
already suffer from security lapses but cover up "to avoid damage to their
reputation") or where people actually get hurt, even killed.

Sad, but that's apparently how human enterprises work. I expect this to be
the same in the US, Germany or Australia.

I'm still getting my CISSP.

Mike,

I am planning the same too. But I would like to learn for it when I
arrive in Sydney. I have already read a lot (The CISSP All-In-One Exam
Guide. -- Shon Harris). But it is booring.
So I decided to wait till Oz and start learning while the sun shines
on my belly.

Salut

Sadeq

PS. Do you receommend any books or sites (Except (ISC)2)?

Yes, I have Shon's book. It'd dry going but her book is considered the most
complete study guide and a good reference by CISSPs that I've talked to
(and by ISC2).

There's another one that I have at work.... can't remember. Much more of a
pure exam cram book. Meaning, even drier but more tailored to the ISC2
exam.

The second installment for adult migrant English tuition may be a little bit more expensive than appearing for an IELTS test.

Nothing stopping you from doing that. You could also ask your case officer to send you a first-class air ticket to Australia as a welcome gift too.

Well, "Stupid guy", the name certainly suits you. So Peter was a bit sarcastic, does that give you the right to tell him to go to hell and accuse him of being a racist?
Talking about showing a lack of respect for people...

Mike,

I have missed this one :-)
To be honest, I have no idea which name God has and I don't care
whether her name is God, Buda, Allah, Jesus or even Ashcroft. The only
thing I believe on is that there is someting very strong controlling
all this universe (NOT just our Glob:-). If it is Ashcroft, OK fine
with me.

He Gents,
What is going on here? Slow down, please :-)
If somebody is racist so it is not my problem. Any way I don't believe
that somebody here is racist. The only thing is that some people do
not have enough information to judge other properly.
Peter has already sent an excuse for his behaviour, which I found ok.
The reaction of people depends only on some circumstances (Do they had
good sex a night before :-), Do they sleep well etc. etc..)
So let all the prejudices and let us close this subject for ever.
An Answer to the question I had sent has been already given. Thanks a
lot to every body.

Sadeq

John Ashcroft controlling the universe? You just scared the living
daylights out of me. I shall now take strong drink and curl up in a corner
in fetal position, trying to get that notion out of my head...
