Default DIAC taken more than 12 months to process application

Hi all,
I’m new to the forum, but have been reading posts on and off for
ages now. I started the emigration process with my agent in January 2007, got my Victoria sponsorship accepted on 9th Jan 2008 and lodged (and paid for) the visa application to the DIAC on 16th Jan 2008. We were told it would take about 4 / 5 months before we heard anything.
In October I was pestering my agent about the lack of any news and they said to have the Meds etc done, as people who were doing this seemed to get a faster result.
In October 2008 we had our Meds and police forms done.
On 9th Dec, heard off agent that Meds had been approved. Which was a relief, as the wife had cancer in 2002, but has made a full recovery as it was caught extremely early. This information was fully documented in the reports we sent in to the DIAC.
One day before the DIAC’s 12 month processing time directive was up, they asked for loads of her health information and reports, which they already have !!
We now are trying to get all these reports done again and pay for a panel doctor to send them , costing £200.
Is it me, or does this sound like they could not meet their own timeframe, so they threw a spanner in the works.
It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience and if anyone else has had to wait this long.
Anyone else gone/going to the Latrobe valley in Vic?.

Hi punch!
Feeling your pain of waiting and redoing the medicals but according to my knowledge the 12 months DIAC time line is not absolute it is just a directive.
Anyway, I think it will be approved soon!!

I'm not sure where you get the 12 month "directive". It's an average timeframe for visas, not a guarentee. I know of applicants who's visa has been issued in as little as 2 months and others who's visas have taken 20 months. Each application is different and is weighed on it's own merits. It would be nigh on impossible for DIAC - or anyone - to promise your visa in 12 months. I would say that with the OP's wife having had cancer in 2002 it would require a health undertaking, or at the very least reports from her specialist.
