DIAC have sent us a cheque
Hi
DIAC have surprised us by sending a cheque of $190 but dont know why? It states "repayment: Fee paid no app lodged" and they have correct name and address (dont know how they got this address as havent applied yet for PR visa and came in on 457 to different address. Dont want to query it as 1. mnay complicate things when we come to apply for our 856 next week, and 2 the money is quite nice, thank yiou very much. Dont remember overpaying anything as OH's employer paid it all before. Anyone any ideas??

I would very definitely query it.
1. If it should have been paid to your employer and you bank it in the full knowledge that all fees regarding you have been paid by your employer, even though the cheque was made out to you and sent to you presumably by mistake, then it could become an issue which goes to your 'Character', and for the sake of $190 why bother complicating things.
2. If someone in DIAC has simply stuffed up and keyed the wrong numbers into the computer (remember the GIGO Principle?) and the cheque has been made out to you in complete error then it will become a debt payable by you to the Commonwealth, which will very definitely complicate your forthcoming application.

Thanks for reply. Called Immigration Finance and they were most confused by it but in the end we worked out it was the amount paid to extend our existing 457 visa to include our new baby. Immigration had lost the first application and another was done, thus the 2 payments being processed (almost a year ago). They have left us to sort it out with his work re getting the money back to them.
