Some solicitors charge an arm and a leg though. Magistrates on the otherhand do not charge for this, but it's getting hold of one.
I waited in my local magistrates court and got a magistrate to certify my docs. before they went into the court rooms for the day.
If you're in Queensland, i know that where i am do it, but in some shopping centres they have little booths where there is a magistrate that can certify your docs.
Hope this helps.

The list is at http://www.ag.gov.au/www/agd/agd.nsf...nsignatorylist and if that's not good enough, you can also use anyone who is authorised under state law if there's anyone left.

I know that a magistrate or solicitor can certify documents. I would stick with one of these.

I dont need one right this minute...(well i do but i have it sorted ATM) but i am just wondering. I mean the Attorney General's office has a list of who can sign a stat dec in Australia but i found so many varying lists for certifying copies.
You would think that immi would ahve a specific list for their purposes. Would solve all the "yes they can/ no they can't/ maybe" conversations, don't you think?

Yes, that's the current practice. There is no specific legislation for certified copies.

Hi Jeremy,
Yes, in fact many have specific rules - Engineers Australia is the most restrictive - but life is too short to address every conceivable question.
