defacto evidence

Hi,
I (aus citizen) am about to start the process of sponsering my partner to australia,
I was living in Canada for just under 5 five years and most of that time I was
living with my partner. It is a genuine relationship, however I am concerned about
proving this on paper... For our own good reasons, we never had joint bank accounts,
although we did share all expenses. Because I was on a temporary work visa, the
apartment lease was in my partners name etc... And although we did buy things
together, I don't actually remember any invoices being written out with both our
names on it... : ) And, as we are both IT people, we never wrote letters, just
emails and instant messaging. We do have a few cards and things left I think...
So what I have is a few bills, bank statements etc showing us as having the same
address (unfortunately I threw a lot of this stuff out when moving...),a few phone
bills showing calls to him, some wire transfer receipts to his bank account, photos
and lots of people willing to write stat. decs. for us...
My question is... can email be accepted as evidence, and has anyone else in the
defacto or interdependent class been in a similiar situation as far as proving a
legit. relationship without a huge amount of papers to back it up... How much weight
is placed on the stat. decs.???
Thanks, advice would be much appreciated, cat

Hi,
Emails are worthless.
As long as you have bills with the same address on, on or around the same dates that should suffice. Old letters and cards. I brought photos (like in the film Green Card), they didn't even open them.

My partner and I had much the same problem as you. They are not that strict. Make some letters up !!

My partner and I had much the same problem as you. I think we only had to prove 2 years worth of relationship.

I handed in my application yesterday with evidence of de facto relationship. We
didn't have any bills or accounts in joint names either. I can't tell you if they
accepted it yet, but what enclosed was:
*extract of the population register, showing that we lived together for a few months
(we moved to Italy after that) *a certificate that I studied and my partner worked in
Italy during the same time *membership at a fitness club, as proof of joint
activities *declarations from our parents *our passports with stamps from two trips
we have made together *a ticket as proof of joint travel
Well, I hope they accept this. I will tell you how it goes. Good luck with your
application!

The proof I sent of our relationship was enough! So I guess they aren't that
strict about it..

Do recommend we submit photographs of us together as a couple? I have lots of other evidence but don't want to
overwhelm Australia House with unnecessary information that
they won't look at.

Well, going on your posts, I have a little more hope now... we are not at the
submission stage yet, still waiting on a couple more things (passport renewal
for one..)
Thanks for your advice and good luck to others in the same situation... cat
