Costs of employer sponsored visa
Dear all
My Company have agree to sponsor me for employer sponsored PR (from 457) and have a preference for using a specific agent. So far (largely off my own back and with help from this site) I have completed full medicals, got vetassess, police checks and references from my employer. The agent wants to charge $5500 + gst (not including the app fee) to submit my application, but my thoughts are that this is a bit high, given the work already completed. I have asked for breakdown of the cost, but have had no reply (communication with this guy isn't the greatest which is another reason why I don't want to use 'em). These costs will be paid for me, but I have to pay them back if I leave my Company within a specified period. Any views/experience on whether these these costs are typical ?

Check http://www.freespirit.com.au/, the average fee to sponsor you may vary from AUD $1000 to $1600 + application fee, it's about $200.
The only reason the company you work for may request you to proceed with this sponsor is because they have facilities in contract agreement.
Must be aware also with the monthly fee over your income, may vary from 5% to 6%.

Just a word of warning ...I came here as a sponsored nurse ...and was put in a nursing home (not what we had agreed to on the phone with my sponsoring employers - I said I wanted an Acute psych ward in a hospital. All the Div 1/3 (qualified) nurses were on the same Visa as myself ...did wonder why no Aussie nurses worked there ...soon found out why ...it was crap !!
I applied for 136 Skilled Independant PR within weeks, got it and promptly left.
The minute you get your PR, the 457 becomes invalid ...so no obligations from either party.
I'm now very happy working for a specialist Agency here in Melbourne.

Will be v happy when it happens - but I don't want to have to pay the agents 5.5K if the job goes pear shaped. I don't think anyone should pay them that much!
