Default Cost of Living in Melbourne - Rough Estimates ?

Hi

I am a prospective immigrant from India to Australia . I am a
Chartered Accountant by education and pallning to do some one years
Masters in Accounting/Finance from Melbourne University to enhance my
career prospects there. I have a wife and no children.

I am basically trying to find out what is the average expenses per
month one should expect to live decently in a city like
Melbourne...like having a rented studio apartment, telephone, a second
hand car, and take care of monthly expenses on electricity, internet,
grocery, etc etc apart from paying taxes amd emergency funds.

Would a pre tax salary of around AUD 30,000 per annum be suffficent to
take care of a family of two people without kids to afford a decent
lifestyle in Melbourne?

Any idea about the jobs prospects in Accounting field in Melbourne for
a Indian Chartered Accountant , after doing some course in Aussie
Accounting for 6-12 months in Australia?

Thanks a lot

Rajiv

On $30 000 a year in a city like melbourne for 2 people you wouldn't have
much left to spare after living costs.

You're probably better off asking this on the Australia & New Zealand main discussion board as some posters are already out there...
