Just after a quick snippet of advice please.
Both my parents live in Botswana and all 3 of their daughters live in Australia (2 with PR and one with citizenship).
They are all alone in Botswana - know no one and are really struggling. Am looking into getting them over to Australia on the 143 visa. Have looked online and can see the $3090 visa application charge and the $14,000 bond listed on the immigration website but no where can I find listed the huge +-$40,000 cost that everyone mentions.
Is this means tested? and where can I find details of this expense?
Many thanks to anyone that can help us girls find out what we need to know to get our beloved parents over with us.

Can I request someone to confirm if the sublass 143 fees has increased suggested in the above message, since the website still shows the old figure.

The Australian Government made a quite inexpicable mistake in that it attempted to raise the 2nd VAC for Contributory Parent visa applications from 01/09/2013 by more than it was permitted to under the law.
The 2nd VAC therefore remains/ed at $42,220 - at least until 01/07/2014 when I anticipate it will increase again.
=> If you (or your parents) are eligible I recommend lodging the visa application in the next week or three; the 2nd VAC should be locked in based on the VAC that applies when the visa application is lodged with the Department of Immigration.
Best regards.

So I assume even the 1st Visa Application Charge hasn't increased as it remains the same on the website.
$2060 for the first applicant and $1030 for second applicant.
Also, we are planning to submit the application for my parents in May-June this year but certainly before July 1st 2014 hoping the VAC is not increased before this date.

Hi Everyone,
Need some advice regarding my case.
I'm completing 2 years in May in Australia as a resident, and am pretty much settled here. Im planning to apply for 143 Contributory for my Parents in May first week (as soon as I complete 2 years).
They are currently with me in Australia till mid Feb. And are planning to come back again in May end. But they have to apply for a new visitor visa, as their current one is expiring.
Have a few questions regarding my case,
Should I apply for PR (143 Contributory) first and then for the visitor visa or vice versa?
If I have to apply 143 first, should I wait for acknowledgement after applying the 143 before applying for the visitor visa again? How long would the acknowledgement take in that case..
Also still confused if their PR should be applied while they are in offshore or in Australia. (My father is 66 years old now, so I think we can go for the aged contributory route for applying onshore). My current plan is to apply while they are offshore. Any pros and cons?

Consider the subclass 864 if you want a fast permanent residency visa - they take about 3 to 4 months to process to a decision at the moment.
That means that funds need to be readily available to pay the 2nd Visa Application Charge - for some this timeline is simply too quick.
This visa subclass must be lodged while applicants are in Australia - at time of lodgement and at the time of the visa decision.
Best regards.

We are ok to wait for a bit longer and go through the 143 route..to get finances sorted out and other stuff..
So just confused if we should apply Visitor visa first and then 143 Contributory, or vice versa. As my parents will be travelling right after applying the visa..
Any suggestions would be appreciated..
