Default Computer Games Artist - Employer Nominations

Hello,

I'm just writing, hoping that someone in this group can shed some
information on employer nominations and durations of employment etc.

I'm a computer games artist with over 11 years of experience in the computer
games industry. If I should get an Australian company to sponsor me to work
for their company, how long would I be able to live and work in Australia?
Also, is there an age limit? I'm 34 years old.

Is it at all possible to get a games company to sponsor me for permanent
residency? As, ideally, I'd like to settle in Australia. Or, say I was
working in Australia, could I apply for permanent residency while there,
assisted by the employer?

One of the biggest worries is the fact that my job isn't really listed, yet
I know people with my skills are in demand.

If there are any employers or employees who have gone through the procedure,
I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me.

More about me, if at all relevant.

I have been using Alias|Wavefront's Maya software, since version 1.0
(currently on 5.01).
I have experience of 3d Studio, 3d Studio Max too.

I am savvy with Photoshop, Premiere, Maya Fusion, DPaint Anim etc.

I lean towards the technical artist side, but am a proficient modeller of
characters\creatures, vehicles and environments. I am well experienced in
rigging and weighting characters etc. I also create textures for game and
have worked on numerous FMV (full motion video) projects.

So, with this in mind, what opportunities are there for someone like myself?
My experience is all on the job and/or self taught, without the academic
qualifications to back them up. Would the 11 years experience overcome that?

Okay, I hope someone can fill me in with some info and avenues of
opportunity.

Thanks,

Roy

You have a cool job! Even at my age I'm still a gamer, and probably will be
when I'm 80. Amazing what you guys can do now!

But, to answer your question: I think you would know it better, but are
there even any game companies in Australia?

Yeah, my job could be considered cool, I guess.

As for game companies in Australia. Yes, there a several I know of:

Ratbag games
Blue Tongue Software
Atari-Melbourne House\Beam software
Tantalus Interactive
Micro Forté
Bullant Studios
Auran
Torus Games
Pandemic Studios

I'm ideally interested in Melbourne based companies, as I have a sister who
has lived there for the last 16 years or so.

OOOH! I wonder if they need a professional tester for the 40-year-old
demographic.

I take it, these are game writing companies, that then publish through the
biggies, like Sony, EA, Microsoft, etc?
