Default Completing ACS assessment form

Hi, hope to get my ACS form out soon, quick question for the experts that may have done this before....

The first page of the form asks for my ASCO code -I've entered 2231-13 Systems designer -I'm a senior IT architect.
However I want apply under MODL Network Security specialism - hence on page 3 where it asks for MODL nomination I have entered the code '2231-79: Network Security'

Have I done this correctly ? ie two different ASCO codes ?

Many thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi

The ASCO code that you place on page 1 is the code that they will asses you under, obviously if you can substantiate 2231-79: Network Security chose that one.

On page 3 they are asking you to place an ASCO code on your previous employment, in order for you to get the MODL assesment at least 12 months of that employment must be declared as and assessed as being in the MODL catagory claimed.

Good luck

Question Re: Completing ACS assessment form

OK thanks for the help but I've read on another forum that the ASCO code you put down on your application form is only an indication of your own assessment. ACS reserves the right to classify you in any IT discipline the evidence leads them to. - Is this correct ? ( I assume yes)

and I thought you only needed 12 months experience of a particular task for MODL ?

hence if I list 2231-79 in all instances and the ACS recategorise me as either a systems design or an IT Manager - both of which can be true (I judge myself as a lead architect specialising in infrastructure and security- but since I have 9+ years of doing this I also have to manage teams) - does this mean I would lose my MODL nomination of 2231-79 network security ? - even though I easily have 12 months experience ?

Hi

I have just read through the guidlines and nowhere does it mention recassification, It constantly speaks to "The nominated skilled clasification applied for", which will be what you put on page 1. I have found it best in the whole application process to go with the regulations as stated, assumptions will get you into a whole world of hurt.

However, you should use your best judgement from all sources availible to you and if in doubt call the organisation concerned.

My suggestion would be to lead them towards the result you want, is it best that they recognise your glowing career or that they classify you in a MODL catagory? Not to say that you cant have both

Cheers

Hi yes, uncertain on this one - however found this post:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showp...27&postcount=1

which seems to show that yes ACS can classify you in an ASCO different to the one you had selected.....

Hi

RPL and skills assesment are totally different proceedures. Search the forum for RPL and you will see that it is not a recommened path (probably because of things like this).

I suggest that you clue yourself up from the ACS website before you proceed.

If you have nominated an unsuitable occupation based on your experience, the ACS will designated a more appropriate occupation in your skills assessment result.

Essentially, if you're after MODL points or STNI, your documentation needs to be spot on so that you don't run the risk of being redesignated.

If you're not aiming for any particular ASCO code or MODL specialization, then the self-selection of a proper nominated occupation isn't quite as critical.

If you need a MODL specialization or STNI occupation, you're probably better off consulting an agent who specializes in IT assessments, or do some serious research on your own.
