- Degree from UK University
- GCE 'O' Level indicating a credit in English subject
Or do i still need to go for an IELTS test?
Appreciate any kind replies.

Rite, I am from Singapore. Have dropped DIMIA an email on this, but no
news from them. Still pondering hard if I should go ahead for the IELTS
test.

I have a MBA from an UK university and Iam not even the principal applicant.
Yet they asked me to take IELTS to prove I have vocational english capabilities.
I dont know what the 'O' level is all about.
Hope this helps.
In my opinion if you are not a native speaker, you should surely take IELTS if you 20 points.
Cheers,
RJ

Where I use to work, nurses had sat and passed the IELTS and their English was appalling.
Just curious.
My husband will have to sit it and was wondering how hard it is, his English is good.

It does not look the difficult to pass. At the end of the day you must be able to function and contribute in an English speaking country. I don’t think they require you to recite Shakespeare to order your electricity or pay your tax ;-)
Tops.

Hi Nit,
If you are not a native english speaker by birth then you have to appear in IELTS, no second thought for it.

Re: Competent English (20 Points)
I did my primary and secondary schooling in Singapore too, did my 'O' levels and completed my undergraduate degree in australia. i wrote a letter to them indicating why i should be given points for competent english eventhough i am not a native speaker since i completed all my education in english. they never requested an IELTS from me and i got my visa granted last month. So i really dun think u need an IELTS if you did all your schooling in a place where english is the main language of instruction.

Just gotten a reply from DIMIA.
" Please be advised to send in all documents relating to English
language ability and your assigned case officer will request further
evidence if required later in the processing of your application,
however to lodge a valid application you do not need to submit an IELTS
at time of lodgement."

Re: Competent English (20 Points)
Folks,
Not too sure if CELPT can be substituted for IELTS. Have scored an
average "6/9" during my polytechnic days.
CELPT - Computerised English Language Proficiency Test. Test
procedures are developed by University of Oxford Delegacy of Local
Examinations England.
Anyway in my application to DIMIA, i will try explaining to DIMIA as
what Ahrkangel has done.
In the meanwhile, continue revising my proper English grammars just in
case I am still required to take IELTS.
