Hi there, we're applying for a 175 visa (low risk country) and after a 9-month wait, we have a CO assigned!

We've been asked for medicals (done and on the way to LCU), PCCs (done and submitted) and the request letter also says "All applicants over the age of 16 must provide an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Certificate".

Has any one else been asked for this when they haven't lived in Oz for >12months in the last 10 years? Would like to know if this is a new requirement, or if it could possibly be a mistake.

There is something going on I think. They may be being extra careful. I was asked for a UK police check even though I haven't been living in the UK for over 12 years. I sent them a query. I'm still waiting for the response.

by the way, does your list of outstanding documents (online) state this? Ours only asks for Overseas Police Checks, which we have provided.

I haven't got an online list yet. No Case officer. I think this is someone checking through submitted applications and sending a message out to make sure eveything goes quickly. I think this is because brisbane is so busy. But I can't take any chances. What I want to know is where am I going to get a military disharge certificate when I've never been in the military...

If they have asked you for one it is clearly an error - just go back to the requester and gently point out you were never in the military on the first place

Well well - this actually ties up with the conversation on the RSMS Visa thread...

Burbage lodged after me and has already had contact - which means his is not in the back log pile ..... also apparently they are being very very strict and have requested english abilitiy evidence from myself and my children as well as letters from schools employers etc. Wait let me rephrase that ... My Agent has requested it as he has other requests for it on other applications... so yes ... something odd.

But it does tie up ....I think people are looking at the files to make sure everything is there before giving it to a Case Officer ...

That might make sense??

thanks for the feedback! we actually do already have a case officer (yay! ) but this info was requested as part of the request letter for further docs.

anyway, now that we know others have been asked for various types of additional docs / info, we will probably just go ahead and do the AFP checks - it's just a pity this wasn't known earlier, or we could have organised it in advance. yet another delay!
