Closely Related Occupations - Help !

Closely Related Occupations - Help !
Just looking for some advise really.
Regarding the Specific Work Experience criteria.
My Boyfriend has received TRA recognition as Electronic Instrumentation Tradesperson (Special Class). Work for 14 years in this job. SInce 2001 has been self employed carrying out Vehicle Instrumentation Diagnostics as well as doing auto elect work and also some mechanical work.
My question is really whether we are going to have problems gaining the 10points for specific work experience. All the stuff that he does in his job today comes directly from the training he recieved during his apprenticeship in Instrumentation. Just don't know whether they can be considered CLOSELY RELATED!
I though I would post to this forum and see what info I could gather ...Just had a big discussion via Messenger and I think I might be doing his head in haha...every question he manages to answer I find a replacement question.
