Default Claiming points for experience

Wondering if anyone can clear this up, I have always been under the impression that to claim points for experience it has to be post graduation, however, I can't seem to find where I saw this. The following link states that; "in the 10 years before you are invited to apply you completed 20 hours of paid work......"
https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/visa-1/190-?modal=/visas/supporting/Pages/skilled/skilled-employment.aspx

doesn't mention anything about it having to be post graduation, can anyone clear this up for me? I done a number of summer placements in uni, reason I'm asking. I am looking to claim 5 points for 3 years experience.

Skilled work experience for points is only counted post qualification. This can vary depending on occupation. What occupation are you applying under and when we’re you assessed as being qualified.

I am a civil engineer, still awaiting skills assessment coming back from Engineers Australia. Can you send me a link to were it mentions the whole post qualification thing?

You can only claim skilled employment if:
  • in the 10 years before you are invited to apply you completed at least 20 hours of paid work per week (this may be adjusted for shift or fly-in-fly-out workers) in your nominated occupation and/or a closely related occupation. Closely-related occupations must be:
    • in the same ANZSCO Unit Group or
    • consistent with a career advancement pathway or
    • determined by an assessing authority that it is closely related to your nominated occupation.
  • either the authority undertaking your skills assessment states in the assessment that your employment is skilled (in your EOI, use the date stated in your assessment as your employment commencement date) oryour employment experience meets the standards for skilled employment set by your assessing authority on their website.
Assessing authorities are listed against occupations in the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations.

it is in the last bit. The assessing Authority will state when you became qualified. It is either by a specific qualification or experience. You need your assessment back before you lodge an EOI anyway. I would assume it will be when you graduated and gained your qualification.

I did have my batchelors degree after my third year, then done a 4 month summer placement before my honours year. So, Wondering if that would be considered....only choose to get my qualification assessed as well because I wasn't looking to claim any points for experience. If I can't get the 20 points from ielts I will go back to engineers australia about it, cheers for the help anyway.

Are actually applying as an Engineer? if it is a 4 year Bachelor of Science then it might be classed as an Engineering Technologist qualification instead. If you are applying as an Engineer, then your degree definitely needs to be a Beng, preferably an Meng. BScs tend to get classed as a technologist.

Regards,
Richard

It was a BEng I done, got my skills assesament through today and its classed as an engineering technologist, not sure if that is of any less benefit to being classed as an engineer
