Citizenship Ceremony - how long invite?
Hi,
My wife and I were approved for Aus citizenship on the 2nd and 15th June with our applications linked. However, we haven't received the invitation to the ceremony yet.
How long does it normally take between receiving the 'congrat on approval letter' to getting the invite to the ceremony? We are in Brisbane city.
I am aware that there is an event on citizenship day (16th Sep). I'm hoping that we will be invited to that one. Anybody done this in Brissie? What was the experience like?
Thanks!
Jason

You've been 'told' wrong.
Citizenship ceremonies take place all year around, although the biggest ones are on Australia Day (26 Jan). Other days on which a lot of ceremonies take place include Harmony Day (21 March) and Australian Citizenship Day (17 Sept).
To the original poster - it can't hurt to call 131880 and ask when you can expect to receive an invite to a ceremony. DIMIA like people to take the Pledge at a ceremony within 3 months of approval of citizenship.

Looking forward to the total security of citizenship and the ability to look around and feel as though it is 'my' country! I think we will be visiting the casino after the ceremony!
I keep winding my wife up "we've achieved what we said we would, so shall I get the tickets booked for the 18th for the trip back to the uk?"! Seriousley though, whilst I'm not going to write a large reflective commentry - we feel that the move has definately for the better and will not be going back. I like winding the misses up though. Having said this... we did not face many of the challenges that some have (I was sponsored ENS and we had everything paid to come over, no kids, few relatives - didn't feel the homesickness bug so much and not at all now). Very lucky.
