Default Child Allowance or Family Allowance what

does anyone know what happens to your child allowance or family allowance once you have moved to australia, if you give it up here which after 2 months i believe you have to can you claim somthing else in oz

You are not entitled to continue claiming UK child allowance once you leave the UK (as far as I know) - irrespective of your Australian entitlement or otherwise. Check with the UK authorities for the exact details.

For Australia, visit http://www.centrelink.gov.au and look up Family Tax Benefit.

The info is on the inland revenue website. I believe that if you are leaving the UK temporarily (less than 12 months) you can keep it going. Permanent migrants have to declare they're leaving and lose the monthly fortune :-)

I think you can only claim up to 12 weeks if you are leaving on a temporary basis just thought I'd add that in case people thought they could claim for the whole 12 months they were away.
