Default Car taxes when arriving

I am trying to find out what the taxes and duties are on bringing a
car in Australia when immigrating. I have a one year old car and even
with shipping costs the price of a similar car in Australia is almost
50% more. The specs of the car are exactly the same as in Australia,
so no modification would be necessary.

Thanks
Ivan

Try this link and on it there is info and a link specifically about importing a private vehicle

http://www.customs.gov.au/site/text_...te_nav_id=2784

One thing he pointed out by a friend who imports cars from Japan is that you may import a vehicle if the same or similar model is not readily available in Australia (based on volume in OZ). If the vehicle is not available through the normal dealerships then you shouldn't have a problem importing, but if it is, its a little unclear as to if its possible and since its already owned and not a purchase you may have little more luck.

Best of luck
Michael

Also try this link which is a summary of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act and has the rules and regulations about shipping a vehicle to Australia. It also includes info on taxes that is payable. Not too sure on the age of the info but hope it helps.
