Default Can you change the visa you are applying for during the process?

In Laws have realised they can't afford the contributory parent visa. Their application went in last year.

Can they switch it to the normal Parent Visa while their application is processing or do they need to re-apply?

PS I know the wait for the Parent Visa is a looooong time.

Cheers
