Can one change council for the citizenship ceremony ?
In my council I would need to wait many months because there is long, very long waiting list.
I was thinking in moving to another council area.
Can one change council for the citizenship ceremony ?
I was reading comments by other persons that that is not allowed.
I live in a suburb of Sydney.
The city of Sydney seems a good council but the rents are too expensive.
Which council would you recommend ?
Thanks

You would move house rather than wait for a ceremony?
Well ignoring how odd that sounds, your question is really can you move house. And yes it is definitely possible to move house. I shouldn't think many people can advice where to as most people won't factor citizenship ceremony waiting times in when they select a suburb.

Re: Can one change council for the citizenship ceremony ?
I went to the City on November 22 when they were having the ceremony and I asked the people that were leaving the ceremony and they told me that they needed to wait 2 months for the ceremony, and the ceremonies are very frequent there, in my council they are only 4 per year and because of the waiting list I will need to wait for 3 of those ceremonies before I get my chance to go to one. So I could live 2 months in the city and after that I could go to another suburb but the city is too expensive, so if anybody can recommend other council area ?

Well that's the lottery of life. Some live in frequent-ceremony suburbs. Others live in war-torn countries dying from chemical weapons.

Just get onto the Council, explain circumstances and request that they consider letting you do an 'emergency' one. Moving home sounds drastic and whilst I wouldn't dream of asking you to explain how 'family circumstance' would necessitate moving house in order to get Citizenship, I can't help wondering. It's ok though, I'll just wonder and mind my own business.

The council is supposed to put in place sufficient citizenship ceremonies to deal with demand. If they are not doing that, perhaps discuss with local councillor?
And really - does it make so much of a difference, whether you wait one month or four months?
Also note, that changing address, etc, complicates the process and may lead to an even longer wait. Also note that a false address declaration is generally illegal.

Re: Can one change council for the citizenship ceremony ?
Kogarah,
The people for the Australia day were already selected, so there remains 130 (approximately) in the waiting list.
The citizenship ceremonies in Kogarah are for 50 people, so those 130 people in the waiting list would need to wait 3 ceremonies before having a chance to go to one. Of course, if there are people that are regarded as Urgent, they will push people down in the waiting list.
(I said before that there were 4 ceremonies per year, but sorry, I made a mistake, they make 5 per year).
