Default can & how do my parents extend their 3 month tourist visa?

hi,

can anyone tell me, my parents are currently over visiting on a 3 month tourist visa.
can they extend their visa for another month or so and how do they go about it?

If they are on the e-visitor (valid for 12 months, but only 3 months at a time) then they need to leave the country and then re-enter, that way they get another 3 months. Can't be extended onshore.

But I'd have thought it would be possible to get a regular tourist visa onshore (unless things have changed recently), however it might come with a "no further stay" condition.

3 years ago when I first came over, I arrived on an ETA planning to stay 3 months, after 2 months I went in to the local Immigration office and applied (onshore obviously) for a 676 I think it was, and was granted a further 6 months. Things may have changed but that is how it worked for me.

Yep, I think it is possible to get a 676 from an e-visitor without leaving the country. Its just to extend the e-visitor that the trip offshore is needed.
