God knows how many reams have already been printed with the old name, now scrap paper. They could have left the old acronym and still made their intentions clear - Department for Instigating Asylum Casualties.

Too complicated to have to remember to change every template every time something gets printed, plus all the policies and SOPs ad guidelines have to be updated with the new department name. It has to be done asap as the risk of sending something out without changing it first is too great, and that may then make the policy or the grant of visa or citizenship etc invalid. For instance, if there is no department called DIAC, then there is no DIAC Minister, therefore a Minister for DIAC cannot sign a citizenship certificate, it has to be a Minister for DIBP. Technical finicky details, but thats life for those of us that work in government departments.
It usually takes so long to get everything updated that the next name change happens as soon as we've finished chasing our tails on the last one.

I still call it DIMIA. DIBP sounds so uncool.

The "Department"
The "Minister"
The "Australian Government"
I reckon they will still use old stationery for internal purposes.

They won't, trust me, they aren't allowed to. I've done enough of these name changes. Everything has to go. Not so bad now as most stuff as printed when its needed. A few years back the wastage was horrific as everything just had to be binned.

How much money will this cost? I'm disappointed. I thought the monk wants to save money.

No one will tell you - the one who labelled Rudd as a "hyper control freak" has gagged his ministers from talking to the media unless approved by his office. Not exactly an indication of trust in his own ministers.
