A big help

Could people please kindly let us know how long it takes to allocate
case officer for Skill indipendant cat. And how long it takes from
being allocated a case officer to being granted the visa.

This is asking the proverbial question "how long is a piece of string"! Frankly it's impossible to say how long each of these things will take. Firstly, every case is different - different visa types, different countries, different occupations, etc. Second, DIMIA is a huge unknown to all us looking in from outside. We don't know what will happen down the road. Just look at the July 2004 thing and the latest "re-organisation" that's happening.

All that aside though, you can make some rough guesses about what MIGHT happen. CO allocated could take anywhere from 12 weeks to 20 weeks (give or take 10 weeks!). Time from CO allocated to grant is even more variable depending on whether you "front loaded" anything like meds/pcc, and whether you get asked for further information about your app. It also very much depends on how keen you are about getting info back to DIMIA. You typically get something like 70 days to return info, but things like PCCs from some countried can take months to get back, so this step can really stretch out. On the whole, assuming you did not front-load, your probably looking at 4-8 weeks from the time you return all the info to DIMIA.

I hope that helps, but really it's not a straight-forward question to try to answer. Just take a look at people's timeline in the sigs for an idea of the variability in the whole process!

Cheers,
Brian

Check out my time line...The waiting is really hard to cope with, but something you will be a pro at by the time you get your visa.

good luck!

Dear All,

As I told you my agent told he has lodged the things in first week of
may. And he sent a letter to us with the ref number. But we didnt see
any thing from DIMIA. Now it's almost 12 weeks and no case officer
allocated. My agent told since my nominated occupation is in demand
list I will get the visa within 6-8 weeks. bUT Today I went through the
DIMIA web site And it says Skill independent cat will take 12-15 weeks.
I have lost my confidence over the agent. What you all advise me to do.

Thanks in advance

Lasanthi

I advise you to wait. we are 4 months now and still no news about our case officer, or police checks requested.

as brian said, who knows what's going on we just have to sit and wait although it's a killer!

I don't think your timeline is anything unusual at all. I would suggest to you that your agent had the wait time off by a factor of 4 (ie: it will take 6-8 months for a visa to come through if you follow the usual route and don't front load stuff). 12-16 weeks wait for a CO and med/pcc request is about the norm right now, with some people waiting longer than that.

As Bridiej says, "I advise you to wait". I know it's not what you want to hear, but you can't rush DIMIA.

Cheers,
Brian

Interesting though that he's told you 6-8 weeks for visa grant and you've waiting 12 already, must mean our application should be being looked at any day now! :)

I agree with Brian & Brideij, see our timeline below, we did not front load and our med req took 15 weeks, so hold off worrying just yet...it's hard but hang in there.

Dear All ...

I found few guys got their MCC within three months. As I told my visa
cat is skill independant (nominated job is in demand) Its three 15
weeks now no responce from them. Can I call them and check from DIMIA.
Will it act negatively ??? or can I ask my agent to check with them ???
Please let me know

I think you've got your answer in the posts above - your agent has probably underestimated the timeline.
Patience is a virtue you need when applying for a visa - and remember, not so long ago it took 18 months or more to get a Skills visa ......

Pollyana is right, and unfortunately there is no continuity, so someone might get a CO within 3 months, someone else might wait 5 - no reason for it just how it goes.

Hang in there....... in the meantime I have space in my padded cell if you're interested! ;)

Yes, SIR are much quicker.

Most people at the moment on MODL skilled independant are getting requests around 16 weeks.
