Baggage allowance for 457ie holders
Are there any 457ie visa holders out there who can tell us about any successful or unsuccessful attempts at obtaining the double baggage allowance?
Thanks

Re: Baggage allowance for 457ie holders
My family and I came on a 457 visa (one-way ticket) with double baggage
allowance.
We flew from Heathrow to Los Angeles then on to Las Vegas, back to Los
Angeles and on to Melbourne with no trouble apart from arm ache and lots of
funny looks from people saying under there breath 'They'll never get through
with that lot'
How satisfying to get 8 cases through.

Was it cheaper to get a one way ticket?, I have heard that most people get a return as it costs around the same.
Who did you fly with via the US?

1 way tickets are about half price (funny that)
we flew BA to US (if I remeber rightly, seems ages ago now, might have been
qantas tho)
then AA internally (spooky, everyone looking suspisiously at each other)
and qantas to OZ (crap, no seat screens)
I advise to have at least a 2 day break somewhere
we flew here in Feb2002 and had a 3 day break in Singapore which was just
right
but when we flew back with just a half day delay in Bombay it took about a
week to feel normal again

The cheapest one way I have found is
LHR to Brisbane Singapore air for 3 adults 2 kids £2150 flying Jan to June the return price for the same period is only £600 more.
Where can you get it half price ?
I think this is a good price anyway, but it is a rip off that it isn't actually half of the return price.

We are going via the US to get the mega 64kgs each. Price for one way LHR to MEL, via LA was £517 each, that's with United (if they are still flying on 2nd Feb)
34 days to go !!!

We've just returned from a trip to Aust. [Nov 02] to pick up our son who had been holidaying with my parents for 18 months. His one way ticket BA-Quantas was £50 cheaper than our returns [£832 5 day stopover in Bangkok] as the outbound ticket carries the loading. I'd love to know how to get 1 way at half price as we couldn't find anything remotely close to that.

£517 is cheap, we did the same: Heathrow - LA - Melbourne, it cost £550 +
taxes.
That includes a discount with Qantas, for opening a Bank account with
Commonwealth Bank of Australia in London before we set off.
Usually you get 20kg baggage allowance, we got it doubled with no trouble,
as it was 1 way.

One way tickets are rarely half the cost of returns. This is true for
all modes of transport, buses trains etc. It's also not unusual (no
Tom Jones gags please) for return tickets to be cheaper.
Coincidentally, I have also got LHR to Brisbane with Singapore for
late January. Two adults, two kids, £1600, includes double baggage
allowance and a five day stopover. That's about the same per head as
your tickets.
The double baggage allowance is a bit redundant if you are also
sending goods by sea. We don't intend to start hauling 40kgs each half
way round the globe when we can stick it in the container and travel
light.
