Hi,
My partner David and I have just applied for our Interdependent
Relationship Visa. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive my police
clearence from the FBI and they are unable to move foward with the
visa. My question is this: in my letter of acknowledgement it states
that if they do not receive the requested evidence in by the time my
substantive visa is up (requested evidence being my police clearence),
they may make a decision on my application without it. What is the
likelihood of them refusing my application without the police clearence
on file?

I won't comment on likelihood of refusing the application. But I would advise that you email your case officer and inform him about the situation they will give you some extra time. Give them the exact reasons for the delay.

I have just gone through this process of getting a police check from the FBI (arrived yesterday in fact, and just sent it to Australia House this morning). If you give them a deadline, they do try to adhere to it. I got them to turn mine around and get it back to me in London within a week. If you email them and tell them your situation, they seem to be very good at replying in a timely manner.

Agree with Gurpreet don't just wait and hope, e mail your CO and explain the situation.

when relying on a third party for requested information e.g. medicals and/or police clearances, it is enough to prove that the procedure for obtaining such ahs been instigated within the prescribed period. So send DIMIA proof that you have applied for the FBI clearance.
