Applied for citizenship on 14th November. After approx 2 weeks got appointment date for test and document sighting for 14th December. Test was carried out at our local medicare office. Citizenship test easy, just read the info book. All docs and test okay, they then carry out the Aus police checks and send you a letter confirming your acceptance. Lady we saw said about 5 days but because of chrimbo ours slowed a bit. Diac then contact your local council who put you on the list for a citizenship ceremony. We were lucky that ours came through in time to go on Australia Day.

Applied for citizenship on 1st August. Had letter 3 days later giving me an interview date for 19th August. Went to interview, did the test, knocked council back on a couple of unsuitable ceremony dates, then finally agreed to pledge loyalty to Australia, share democratic beliefs, respect rights and liberties & uphold and obey Australia's laws (except when Australia are playing England in the ashes) on 25th January.

All in all, a fairly painless process.

Cheers

LG
