Applying PR and Studying in Australia

Applying PR and Studying in Australia
I am going to applying for PR within this month thru' Skilled Australian Sponsored (Subclass 138). I also planned to enroll in an Australian university next July.
Will there be any issues with the PR process when a few months down the road I will be applying for the study visa?
My sponsor in Australia called up DIMIA and actually spoke to an officer. He mentioned that my immigration process will freeze once I have applied for the study visa. Is this true? Do anyone have any similar experiences to share?
I hope to be able to have both the immigration process and my graduate study on-going at the same time. Hopefully by the time I graduated, the visa will be approved by that time.
