We are looking at applying for the 804 visa ( I know that they will never be processed in our lifetime as there’s a 30+ year waiting list )
I am 67 and my husband is 71 our only daughter is a citizen in Australia.
i know that our state pensions will freeze when we leave the country and not be released till (if) we return
i understand that we will need to undertake a medical before the application is put in but not sure about this
is anyone over there on a 804 ( temporary visa ) that can give true advise ( and anything else I might have missed )
1) I know the Uk has a Reciprocal health agreement with Australia so we could get a Yellow card - does anyone know what this covers you for
also
Can anyone recommend a private health company to cover the things that are not covered by the yellow card (Medicare)
2) I understand that when you apply for the804 a Bridging visa is given which allow you to stay in the country BUT if you want to leave you must ask for permission and state why you want to leave, is this easy to get/do ?
are there any other pitfalls that I need to be aware off?
we plan to rent out our home while we are deciding where to live so far it’s between Brisbane and Perth, would love to do Sydney but it’s too expensive

Yeah the 804 queue is basically a time capsule at this point sadly. The bridging visa part is usually fine if you stay in Australia, but leaving without the right travel permission can screw things up fast, so double check before booking anything. Perth is way calmer on the wallet than Sydney too, Sydney rent is just comedy now.
