Default ANYONE APPLYING FOR GRADUATE NURSING PROGRAMME??

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if there are any student nurses on the forum that are applying for the Graduate Nursing Programme this year?? I am going to be applying through the Queensland Health & Ramsay Health, thought if I tried 2 it might increase my chances.
I just have a worry about not being able to get my Certificate from University before I leave for Oz.

I am due to qualify in September 09 & will register with the NMC & hopefully leave in late October once I have my PIN number.

Once in Oz I will have to register with the QNC, will I have to wait for my certificate or is there a way they will accept your transcript until the certificate arrives??

Sorry for rambling a little, hope it makes some sense.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Cathy

Hi. You might be better posting this on the nursing forum. Look at bottom of the page and there is a forum jump list. I am hoping to go on my hubbies visa and get a bit of experience here first plus we have kids and a house so lots to sort out yet so need a bit of time. I have just qualified believe me this last part of your training will fly by so it is good that you are planning ahead. I hope the nursing forum can help you out.

Hi Kayelem,

Thanks for that. Is there an easy way to move my post or shall I just start again in the Nursing forum?

hi. Sorry I am new to all this too so I don't know. Can I ask you something if you don't mind. I notice that you have sent your skills assessment. How did you do this with no experience i thought I would have to have 5 refs so that is why we have not considered me getting a visa. Also what is a practical assessment?

Hi,
Sorry to confuse you!! It is my husband that is getting the visa, he is a carpenter and had to do a practical test. I hope with a hospital not having to sponsor me, it might be easier to get a job.

Ahh right. It is annoying that I am newly qualified and raring to go, and Oz has a shortage of nurses and yet we have to get experience first. I wish the Australian NMC would come and see how much hard work us UK students have to put in on the wards during our 3 years training. I feel experienced already.

The programme looks really good, I am just keeping my fingers crossed I get it. In my head I am there already, I hope it works out and i am not getting my hopes up.

Hi,

I'm sure you will be fine. I wish applying with Queensland health was that easy, I'm having to wait until July to apply online because I don't want to start until Jan/Feb 2010. However Queensland Health are going to be at an EXPO in Leeds in March, so I may get some new info from them.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

It's jan 2010 I plan on going out. I explained to them on the phone I couldn't come out until then and they seemed happy with that. I am worrying about what sort of questions they will ask me. They also said that the interview will be in a group format with other prospective graduates, so i dont know how that is going to work at all. The day after my interview there is also an expo in edinburgh that me and oh are going to visit, I need to be as prepared as possible for a potential move.

I have downloaded the australian code of conduct to read and I have heard about a poisons act but cant really find anything on this will need to do more searching. I am also going to swat up on my surgical nursing skills, feel pretty comfortable with most things medical but had limited surgical experience so doing sime studying to refresh the brain cells. Any advice or tips on anything you have found out would be greatly appreciated. I will keep you posted with my progress.

I don't think you need any tips from me, you seem to have everything in hand!!!!!!!! From what I can gather, the graduate programme is set up for students in Oz because they don't get much experience out in practice, as far as I know they don't go out in to practice much at all. So I think the programme will be very similar to what we have already done over here. But will be a good way for us as UK newly qualified to experience the Oz culture & healthcare system. Plus they appear to do all pathways in one over in Oz, so we will get experience of mental health & child. I think there are about 4 placements in a year, and with some you can do another year and specialise in something. Let me know how you get on at interview & expo.
