Anyone already in OZ applying for PR?
HI!
I am on a student's visa in Australia and have recently applied for PR. Does anyone has an expreince with applications when the prospective immigrant in already in Australia on a substansive visa? Do you get a bridging visa and how fast is that? I really don't want to wait until completion of my degree and apply in the Skilled Independent Overseas Student category because there are lots of rumours floating around. If on a bridging visa, is it true that DIMIA would process the application faster than the stipulated 50 weeks for fear of the applicant falling out of status.

Hi,
I've just done the same thing, also not wanting to wait until I finish
my PhD to apply under SIOC. My understanding is that they won't issue a
bridging visa under our conditions (only if we were applying after
finishing a degree). I had to recently renew my study visa as well (what
a waste of time+money).
What did you do about work experience on your application??

Re: Anyone already in OZ applying for PR?
I havd one year of part time job experience in the USA in the last 6 months. On the basis of my bachelor's degree and this experinece, I could apply under BN136. I am doing Master of Information Technology in Bond University and am graduating in September 2003. If I do not get a bridging visa, I will have to leave Australia because I am expecting PR results in January next year. Is it possible that I apply for DD880 in September and have both applications running in parallel? Whichever comes first...

You can certainly have more than one application in at a time, as long
as you declare that your other result is pending. A couple of guys here
in Queensland received PR this way in about 4-5 months after their
thesis was accepted.
I also applied using part-time work as experience. Do you know if
20hrs/week is enough?

Hi! Yes, it is clearly written in 1119 that employment is defined as 20 hours per week. We can communicate with each other at our private e-mail ids. You may like to register for britishexpats so that we can communicate directly.

Dave: I don't know your address at all to use it. Can you send me a private e-mail with your e-mail address in there. I will pick it from there.
