Hi, im a public Sector Accountant (CIPFA - Health Service) and I was wondering if any other Accountants are in the process of emigrating or have done so. Im after general advice on any Immigration issues and job market advice. Were thinking of Perth or NSW.

Hi Tony

There are at least half a dozen of us on here. Sonictigger, saratoga, ginauk and sunshinegirl are some and Gethy's other half is too.

If you go to the www.austimeline.com site and search for 2211-11 ASCO code you will find quite a few others, many of which are on here. You can also see how quick our applications move forward on there.

I am chartered myself but at least one of the others is also CIPFA. Post a thread or PM me if you want to know anything.

I'm CIMA an looking at Perth. Was thinking of Brisbane but we prefer Perth.

My 136 is with DIMIA so we're waiting on medicals at the moment.

Have you had your assessment done yet?

My other half is an accountant (CIMA). But he was looking for a way out and our visa has offered us just that thank you very much! Though, what he is going to do with the rest of his life goodness only knows. I think he thinks he is going to send me out to work! (lol)

Sorry can't offer any job market advice but we don't even know which job market we intend looking into! Decisions decisions, decisions! If the house would sell it might spur him on to making a decision!

Yep - I'm CIMA and looking to move to the Gold Coast asap. Assessment is complete, just waiting on the answer, should be anytime this week, fingers crossed.

Welcome to the madhouse and many sleepless nights. If you thought qualifying was stressfull enough, wait until you start this process!!! lol

Jobs! Accountants are in high demand - but you would need to be (or be able
to become) qualified to join either the CPA or CA associations.

If by NSW you mean Sydney or suburbs - the cost of housing there is much
higher than anywhere else in Australia.

Western Australia (and hence Perth) is riding high right now, mainly because
of the world (in particular from China) demand for their mineral resources.

The eastern states offer a more diverse economic base, and hence better long
term stability. Also be aware that Perth is the only large city in WA - and
it's a hell of a long way from anywhere else. Again the eastern states offer
many desirable places to live and play!

Not necessarily - some British qualifications such as ACCA and CIMA (plus the UK CA bodies) are accepted in the marketplace as equivalent to Australian - especially in the main cities.

HI, thanks for the advice. Were a little behind you, just getting our skils assessed now, My partner is a nurse and im about to send my info to ICAA to get my points assessed. Hoping to move to Perth Summer/Autmn at the latest. Id be very interested to keep in touch to see how it goes for you there. What you doing about a job?

I'm an ex-accountant (escaped 5 years ago) and Neil, my husband, is a CIMA accountant. We also want to go to Perth. We sent Neil's skills assessment off to the ICAA at the end of January. Unfortunately, it took three weeks (!) to get there, because it grew roots on the agent's desk ...

We know the ICAA have got it now, because they charged the credit card.

Are you coming to Sandown? I hope to meet up with some other accountants at the expats meet on the Saturday. Maybe see you there?

Hey, am a student doing accountacy...... in oz. The job market is flooded with offers for accountants in the local newspapers. Regional cities (where I live) have a great demand for accountants as well...so it is looking good...I however was asked to finish one more subject by CPA before my qualifications became suitable for migration purposes. So it is back o the study table for now...:-(

I have also applied as accountant, though for the last 2 years I specialised as internal auditor, and in November I passed 4 part exams and got CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) qualification http://www.theiia.org/?doc_id=3 We planned to move to Brisbane, but after studying the job market I suppose that it's rather narrow and most employers demand previous local experience. So we are considering Sydney now, the number of vacancies is about ten times greater there than in Brisbane, they are more variuos, so the chance to fit for some positions is greater.
And anyway CA/CPA is one of the core requirements, so after arrival (if all is OK with my visa) I intend to study necessary subjects (Au taxes and law) and enrol for CPA program.
I would be glad, too, if someone can share his or her experience on career development for immigrating accountants.
