I imagine there may be a few different occupation codes closely related to this occupation (In the Electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields).

I would suggest that you have a professional review the persons CV.

HI,
Did you worked on aircraft or what is your basic trade,Avionics or Aerospace?
1. If your are from avionics side than you will have to apply for your skill assessement as "Aircraft maintenance engineer, Avionics (ANZSCO Code 323111)".

2. And if you are from aerospace than you will have to apply for your skill assessment as " Aircraft maintenace engineer mechanical, (ANZSCO Code, 323112).

3. The relevant trade assessment authority for your skill assessment is "Trade Recognition Australia". you can find it at following link.
http://www.deewr.gov.au/Skills/Progr...s/default.aspx

After successfull assessment from TRA you can move further

I am currently studying in Australia as Aircraft maintenance engineer- avionics. When I get my graduate visa, I will have my TRA assessment for AME-avionics. I was thinking that if I get a job as a sim tech, will they consider that to be AME-avionics or not for my PR?

In aviation usually the people those who work on simulators are basically from avionics or aerospace. however it is more specialized job.
But better u try to get job as an AME Avionics. because in futrure you will need licensing. for this purpose you will have demonstrate aircraft experience.
For detailed detailed & clear answer regarding your question u please contact australian civil aviation (CASA).

thank you for your advice. I do prefer to get my licence. Just not sure how easy it will be to get a job when I finish studying. I'm understanding that non- Australians do not get apprenticeships in Australia? Only Permanent residents and citizens?

But in aviation profession it is necessary to be licensed. you will have to opt for that.
