Hello,
I am considering 136.
I am initially going out on 457 (subject to acceptance, hopefully very soon), with job offer Qld health and QNC rego.
Advice & comments please:-
1 - Opinions of 457 v's 136. (Concensus on BE seems to be against 457)
2 - Do I only need to do the AMNC MOD assessment, as I have QNC rego?
3 - 136 states application & approval must be made outside of Oz. (So if i were to enter on 457, is this where you have to leave the country and re-enter to validate 136?)
4 - Have recently had meds for 457, does anyone know is the same meds can be used for 136?
Many thanks, any other advice or comments along the same lines would be useful.

1 - 457 is OK if you need to be out there before your 136 is processed and, as you mention at 3, you are aware that you have to leave Australia when your 136 is ready for approval. 457 has other implications with costs for family members for schooling etc.
2 - If you have Registration with Qld and a current Practicing License, you apply for Modified assessment - A$190 from 01 July 07.
3 - For 136, you can be inside or outside Australia to make the application but you must be outside Australia when they approve it.
4 - As a nurse, you may have done the full medical that is required for a permanent visa - HIV test, Urine analysis, chest X-ray, check with your panel doctor to see if there is anything else as you may ber able to supplement your recent medicals with anything missing, usually if done within 3 months of the original medical. If you have other family members, it is likely that they have not got the required clerances for permanent visas - but they too may be able to upgrade if done within 3 months.

hi,
we're here on a 457 and must agree that being a temporary resident is very unsettling, get PR if you can , and yes if you've got australian nursing reg already you can do the modified assessment, not sure about you're other questions but I'm sure someone will be along soon who'll be able to help.
regards,
Louise

I may be being a bit thick here, but if we were to come out on a 457, but apply for 136 before entering Australia, how can you plan to be outside of Australia when they approve 136, when you don't know when that will be?

When they are ready, they send you a "pre-grant" letter advising that they will grant your visa subject to you leaving Australia - they say you need to leave for over a week although generally 3 days is plenty - most go to Auckland to get visas sorted. They give you a bit of time to arrange the trip, within reason.

Any reason why your employer couldn't sponsor you for ENS permanent residence?
If uprooting yourself from UK then be careful - you have no security in Australia on a 457.
2. Correct.
3. You don't have to leave Australia to apply for 136. You will need to go to somewhere like New Zealand for your visa to be granted and stamped. Whole family must go.
4. Sometimes, but don't count on it.

Not sure about Qld, but Perth office don't accept meds done for the 457. I came over on 457 ( and am a nurse, so had full meds done and then all bloods again for the hospital! ), but had to repeat medical, bloods and X-ray for my ENS application. They said they would not accept any tests done overseas.I would check with the local DIMA office in Qld.

And thanks for reply, but we're thinking of starting 136, preloading meds etc before our departure to Oz. Normally meds for 136 would be done overseas (ie uk) as people would not have travelled to oz, as in your case, so i dont see why they wouldnt accept them in our case. Unless anyone knows otherwise!!

HI. Yes, you should be fine if you apply from the UK. Good luck.
