ACS - Letter of completion
Hi all,
This may sound like a stupid question but I better be safe than sorry.
In the "How to Lodge an Application" in the ACS guidelines they state:
"...
Letter of completion
In the absence of the testamur applicants that have completed their
qualification must submit a letter from the institution stating the
date of completion and the duration of the course in academic years.
This statement should also specify whether the study was full or
part-time. All qualifications will be verified through the university,
students must therefore grant permission to the university to release
this information to the ACS, when requested.
Undergraduate qualifications must in all cases be provided.
..."
I hold a master's degree in Computer Systems from the Technical
University of
Sofia, Bulgaria - 5yrs of study (this makes me a Dipl.eng. here).
I also have 5.5 yrs of work experience (2 of them after
graduation) as an IT proffesional, so I should meet the group A req's.
I have a university diploma (presume this is what ``testamur'' means)
and an
appendix to it which states "the date of completion and the duration
of the
course in academic years".
So, by my reasoning, there is no "absence of the testamur" therefore I
do
not need submit a Letter of completion. On the other hand I'm not so
sure
how all those educational terms relate to the ones we have here.
For instance, is my qualification undergraduate?
If anyone is familiar with the matter, please tell me if I'm right and
do
I need a "Letter of completion" (whatever that means) for the ACS
application.

Re: ACS - Letter of completion
An academic testamur is also called an academic transcript. Transcripts are documents that show clearly all the subjects/modules you took while you were in university, the respective grades as well as the dates of each semester/term of your course. It will also have the final award's title (e.g. Bachelor of Science), class (e.g. First class honours or GPA) and the date of graduation.
If you have such a document resembling an academic transcript (essentially a consolidated report book for your university), you will not need a letter of completion.
As far as work experience is concerned, you have to provide as much documentation as you can possibly assemble, as it is a pre-requisite for a positive assessment.
Good luck.

Got that.

Hmm. Wouldn't "refference" letters (as described by the ACS) do?

Thank you :-)
