Default 457 Visa Advice Needed!!!

Hi Everyone....

One of my very good friends is strongly considering a move to Australia.

They were planning on going through the skilled Migration process for perm residency.

However after emailing afew companies in Australia over the last few days.

It looks like there is an opportunity to go on a 457 visa.

I was just wondering if anyone has gone down this route and then applied for permanent residency once in Australia.

Would it be difficult once out there to achieve PR status.

Her husband would be going as a tool maker.

They want to get to Australia soon.

But they don't want to end up coming back to the UK after 2 years...she has family in Perth but under the 457 visa they would end up in Victoria.

That doesn't bother them as they just want to get to Aus.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Utopia,

You said they planned to go on a PR visa - will they still apply for this, or is the 457 INSTEAD of the PR visa?

Can they not get the points for the PR visa?

If they can, surely it would be better to get the PR visa, instead of going on a temporary 457 and have all the restrictions of it?

If shes got family out there, could they sponsor them?

Well they have been renting in the UK for so long now and are sick to death of the Uk.

She initially comes from SA so the climate here is really getting her down.

Her husband is British. But for some reason the PR Visa Process is taking ages.

They want get to Aus asap. The 457 Visa seems to offer them this option.

However, if it means no PR then it wouldn't be a good idea.

Hope that makes sense

457 is not a PR visa.

Why can't the employers sponsor for permanent residence instead?

Or if they want to go to WA, can they get a state nomination:
http://www.migration.wa.gov.au

And have they already applied for their skilled PR visa or not? How long ago did they apply?

Hi JAJ,

Thanks for replying!

No they haven't applied for PR visa yet.

Basically a couple of nights ago my friends husband started emailing alot of companies.

This morning they received an email from a company offering them the 457 visa.

However they don't know much about this visa and neither do I.

Other than the fact it isn't a PR Visa.

The 457 is probably the quickest one to get and this may be what the employer is looking at. The most important thing is to ask what the employer is going to agree to do for you afterward to get you from temporary residency, through permanent residency to citizenship

we came out on a 457 in january last year and then applied for PR.

we got state nomination from the Tas government, applied in june, and got our visa in oct with no problems.

our employer brought us out on the 457 as he said it would be faster but there wasn't much difference IMHO.
