Generally 457 visas only take a few months (see who's applying 457 thread)
Houses, however are taking a long time to go at the moment (see whinging pom house selling thread) so I would say put house up for sale ASAP.

It can take anything from 1 month to 3 months......longer if complicated.

If you are going to Perth and are a nurse then registering with the NBWA is taking just as long if not longer at the moment.

dont come out here on a 457 visa, yes it is very quick, but you have no rights in Australia. You are basically a visa slave, we have done it and my partner is a diesel mechanic. We thinking of going back to the UK and applying for the 136 visa

that is a bit unfair really kerry. I agree you are on a sticky wicket with regards to a lot of things because of the temporary status but thousands of people come out and have no problem. I am sorry you and your husband have had a bad experience but it isn't always the case. You do know that you don't have to return to the UK to apply for the 136, you can do it from here. If I was you I would seek the advice of an agent to weigh up your options.

I couldnt have said it better myself

We are going on a 457 and intend to apply for a perm as soon as we can.
Yes there are restrictions but as long as you are aware before you go then you accept them and adapt. I just hope I like the place that sponsors me as I know I am tied there for anything between 1 and 4 years.

I hope you sort something out KerryandGordon so you start to enjoy this wonderful oportunity.
