457 Defacto partner
Hi
Please could someone confirm the defacto (secondary applicant) criteria for a 457 visa.
I have read on a different site that the requirement is 6 months in a comitted relationship as it is a temporary visa.
Is this true?

Couldnt find the page on the immi site that clarified it.... found it now after your reply.
Its not a problem just means more searching for paperwork.
Many thanks

If you google "457 de facto" you'll find other sites confirming there is no strict 12 month rule (which I probably can't link to here)!

Not sure this is right actually, unless its changed in the last two years. When myself and partner were initially moving over on a 457 we were wondering about this. There seemed to be no strict 12 month rule for 457 de-factos (like there is for PR). We had been living together about 8 months when we applied for the visa and it was approved OK. We included all usual evidence including joint bank acc etc, but only for the 8 month cohabitation. We actually only moved in together 8 months earlier after we had decided we wanted to come to aus together!

Yep, I can only find reference to 12 months as well. Don't rely on info from any site except www.immi.gov.au though, it may be that there is discretion allowable with temporary visas, but just cos it happens in one case doesn't mean it'll happen in others.

Ahh ok. It may make things a little easier then.
I knew I had read something somewhere.
We have been together over 12 months but some earlier info is proving difficult to locate so we were waiting a bit longer.
Now theres the option of 457 but a little sooner than we planned.
