You have to work full time on the 457 visa so you wouldn't have time to study full time even if you wanted to.

457 has no study restrictions so Full-time study is allowed. More practical in terms of secondary applicants as, like Pumpkin says, may be hard to work full-time and study full-time.

unless your a permanent Australian resident/citizen you would be classified as an international student - and international students do not have the part-time option. (and they also pay almost 4 times the fee domestic students pay)

I am would have thought part-time study can be sorted as study does not have to be a cricos course - but I am not sure on this

fair enough ... circos approved courses would be a requirement for student visa and since he doesn't need a visa, your right, he may actually have the part time option after all.. makes sense Tony .. Cheers for the info

i did not understand in the end: if my friend gets sponsored , will he be able, BY LAW, to enrole in a FT or PT course ?
Is there any difference if the course is CRICOS registered or not?

Under Migration law, yes can study full-time part time whatever. The education providers will then have their own policies on course entry requirements. If the study is not a CRICOS registered course, then it is likely that the obtaining of any qualification will not meet some Immigration requirements if later trying to get visa concessions on the basis of that qualification.

Yes, but by law if they are the person being sponsored to work on a 457 then they HAVE TO work full time, or the visa will not be valid. That would be extreamly hard to do while studying full time too.

Yes, the main applicant has to be working full-time too but full-time study can be as little as 15 hours per week attendance, depending on the course.
