Is 45 age still absolute cut off for migration?
Hi,
Apologies in advance. But I would like help with this question. Toyed with the idea of moving to Australia a few years back. But were in the middle of this recession, and were just trying to survive, plus new baby ect. Now things are on an even keel we are talking about it again. Only thing is my husband is now 45. He is a joiner/carpenter. 26 years experience. Would the only way now be under a state sponsorship? I'm 38 and two kids 4 and 6.
Many thanks

No age is 50 but no points for age after 45 so many people find it difficult and need sponsorship. Even then state sponsorship might not be enough, but there are employer sponsored visas and also state sponsored regional provisional visas to consider.
Have a good look on immi.gov.au

The upper cut off for skilled migration is 50, but once you turn 45 it's really difficult to score enough points as there are no age points so even state sponsorship may be out. Do you have a skill on the CSOL?

Did they change it from 44 it was a few years ago?
Thanks for your reply. Also did you really go, come back, and are going again?

My husband is a joiner / carpenter. When I checked a few years ago his skills were always on the list. Thanks!

Yup the age changed a bit back.
And yes after returning to the UK in 2007 we are going back to Adelaide at the end of the month.

Thanks for your reply. I guess the British weather can't compete with Adelaide! Good luck.. x

His skills maybe on the list, but he is also 45 and he may not be able to get enough points for a visa. If you had a skill on the list then you may be able to get the visa instead

I don't have a skill that's on the list. Though I suppose I have a few years in me to gain some! Lol

If you want to double check points have a look here - http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/1119.pdf

Yes it isn't the list that is the issue, it is the points test. Have you taken it to see where you land? It is quite unusual for someone to pass after 45 unfortunately.
