173 versus 143 can anyone advise??
Hi
We are considering applying to join our daughter & grandchildren in Australia (will still have a son in UK ).
Initially we were looking at CPV 143 however after looking further into it we are wondering if CPV Temporary 173 would be the better alternative The reasoning behind this is it will cost less initially, give us the the option to come back to the UK if for some reason it didnt work out and we could still apply for PR before the 2 years are up and pay the extra at then.
If we were to go for the 173 option I would be just on retirement age after the 2 years. Would this affect anything

173 visa is not risk free ... if something happens to the sponsor, for example, there may be a problem.

Hi,
If you are not sure, applying for the 173 first may be a better option. You pay less money and there is no assurance of support criteron for 173. With 173 visa you have access to Medicare and have work right. Generally, You need to apply for 143 within the valid period of your 173 visa if you want to stay in Australia permanently, then you need to pay some extra money and arrange assurance of support as well. According to the current law, there is 28 days grace period for applicant to lodge a valid 143 visa application after 173 expires. Also, if applicant can show that compassionate and compelling circumstances exist, then the applicant would still be eligible although 173 expires.
