Hi,could anbody please tell me how long your sponser has to reside in Australia before they can be your sponser...

For a 138 I don't think there is a two year requirement - they just need to be PR or Citizens.

No 2 year requirement for 138, although usually residence in Australia is needed.
BUT - remember the Assurance of Support requirement has different rules.

Also - special rules if sponsor lives anywhere in or near Sydney.

Does anyone know whether the same (ie no two year requirement) applies to the new 496 provisional visa?

Thanks JAJ what would be the rules for the assurrer of support.My concern is my sister arrived september 2005 and started work october 2006 unfortunately she didnt meet the salery earned requirement for that year but will for the second which will be this june (end of the the Austraian tax year).I will be able to joint assur for the application with a friend of my sisters but at the end of the second financial year my sister wouldnt have been in Australia for 2 years until September 2007 will this matter

Hope this makes sense
