Default 136 (or STNI) or job offer to speed up entry for sake of kids

Hi group,

We have just started the process and are hoping for a 136 (or STNI) to go to
WA as motor mechanic. We are using a local agent who is MARA registered. I
am waiting for the TRA results. I would like to be in Perth in January 07
because of the new school year for my kids, 9 and 10 yr old. It seems that
the whole process of a perm visa takes about a year.

Can I get a job offer and go in and still carry on with the permanent visa?
I know I can get a job with a work permit and it takes about 10 weeks. Can
they be running in parallel? And if I do get a job offer am I obliged to do
it for two years? Do I have to honor the two years, even if I am not happy
in the job? It happened to my brother in law in NZ.

In a nutshell, I want my kids to start school in the new year, and not ,,say
middle of next year.

TIA
Fritz
