12 month contract on 190 visa needed?
#16
Except it does say "may"
You are most likely correct but we shall see.
When I say finding a teaching is different to most other interviews, I mean that usually they need to see you teach a lesson, as well as have a formal interview. I'd imagine seeing a lesson would be a challenge considering I am on the other side of the world.
If this fails is there anything to stop me applying for a 189 visa without having a job to go to?

Did WA contact you to apply for state sponsorship from your EOI?

Would many jobs offer a 12 month contract without the person having a visa? Baring in mind how long a visa could take to even come through...

From what I've heard, it's very difficult to get any contract in teaching. Not in WA but friend has been lucky to get term contracts (special needs teaching at high school). Another friend is just getting cover days! (primary teacher).

No, it won't be easy to get a job without a visa. It is a criteria that would be very difficult for anyone to meet.

Well fingers crossed.
Once I'm there teaching is just one avenue I can go down. Supply teaching would be fine but I have also looked into before and after school hours care, which I am over qualified for and there are plenty of job opportunities there...

Invited to apply, pay fee, fail to meet criteria, get rejected. State wins.

I don't think that States include tricks in their criteria, in the hope of snagging an application fee or two!

Note to self: Don't FIGJAM yourself about being a good teacher and then do this.

Probably more to do with typing on an iPhone than anything else...
I feel a lot of hostility in this thread.
I have read all the fine print and it does say "may" require a 12 month contract. I emailed them prior to sending off my application and they once again said may...
Fingers crossed anyways...

Back to the 12 month contract thing. Clearly you have access to information others do not. I could only find the attached, which does not say *may* it states that an employment contract is a must.
Would you be able to provide a link to the fine print you have seen? There are probably hundreds of people that are not applying as they assume they need to meet the published criteria.

There is no hostility. You are possibly interpreting people being honest with you as being hostile because it is not what you want to hear.

Dear Steven
Thank you for your email.
If you are invited to make an application for State nomination from Western Australia you may require a contract of employment.
Also when applying for state nomination it asks if you have a 12 contract offer. I ticked no and it still let me apply, however there were several other key areas, such as skills assessment, funds etc which had to be ticked as yes in order move further.
I have read examples of people being granted the 190 without a contract despite being on schedule. Let's hope I'm one of these people.

Here is another link on WA site, it uses the same sentence as you got in your email ... read the next sentence.
Contract of employment
If you are invited to make an application for State nomination from Western Australia you may require a contract of employment. This is a requirement for those who have an occupation on Schedule 2 of the WASMOL, those living in an Australian State or territory other than Western Australia and those who have a restricted preferred region.
